Case STudy – Author Helen Dent
I had the opportunity to work with author Helen Dent to refresh her website. Helen is the author of the novel ‘The Burning Tree’.

The Creative Challenge

When I met with Helen to discuss her hopes for the website, she mentioned that she liked both fairytale and vintage styles. Incorporating both of these elements in a cohesive, effective manner was a creative challenge that was accomplished by adding vintage touches such as old-fashioned red sneakers and a typewriter.
Personalization
I also looked for some creative options to tailor Helen’s website in a way that would bring her amazing story to life on the page and help website visitors get to know her. Some ways I accomplished this was by:
- Incorporating some of Helen’s favorite quotes from ‘The Burning Tree’.
- Using photo manipulation to place the logo of Helen’s fictional coffee shop, ‘Blooms’, on a coffee cup.
- Using imagery that reflected important elements in her story (mysterious woods, embers, etc.).
- Displaying a Q&A with fun and informative questions about life, writing, and reading.

Case STudy – Author Shannon McDermott
I had the opportunity to help author Shannon McDermott update the design of her website for her new book release, ‘The Time Door’.

The Creative Challenge

Shannon wanted her website to have a clean, sci-fi feel to it. Since her new book features Mars, I incorporated imagery that was reflective of the planet. As well, I added in general space elements throughout the website (stars, the night sky, etc.).
Personalization
In order to add personal touches to Shannon’s website, the design incorporates:
- A page highlighting Shannon’s earlier written works.
- Imagery that brought Shannon’s story to life (stars, Earth, the night sky, Mars, etc.).
- A list of guest appearances and interviews.
- A conversation with Shannon that features some fun facts.
