Are you seeking ways to make your website look more professional? The tips in this blog post are simple and yet effective in giving a website a more professional look.
1 – Less is More
Imagine walking into a cluttered living room. Nick knacks are spread throughout the room, the coffee table is covered in papers, and books are stacked on the floor. Chances are, you’ll feel overwhelmed, and you won’t know where to look with so many items competing for your attention.
The same is true of any website. When visitors come to a website, they want the message to be clear, concise, and easy to understand. If they have to scroll through loads of written content and endless images to understand what product or service is being offered, they’ll become overwhelmed and take their business elsewhere.
Less is more. Look through your website and ask yourself where you can streamline content so that your message is clear and can truly shine.
2 – Organize Your Content into Sections
Look for ways to split your content into clear, identifiable sections on each page. For example, many ‘Home’ pages have a catchy banner image, a bio, a clear call-to-action (such as a newsletter sign-up form), etc. Split your content into the appropriate section and add a relevant heading for each segment.
Tip! Delineate your sections visually by changing the background color (or background image) for each section. This gives a subtle cue to the website visitor that they’re viewing a new section, giving the web page a more organized feel.
3 – Select Only 2 or 3 Fonts
While there are many beautiful fonts available, resist the temptation to use a multitude of fonts for your website. By selecting only 2 or 3 to use throughout your website, you can create a much simpler and more cohesive theme throughout your website.
4 – Choose a Limited Color Palette to Work With
Similar to fonts, select a few colors to work with, and then use them consistently throughout your website. By using a limited color palette, you can create a more unified theme that clearly communicates your unique brand.
5 – Give Your Content Space
Don’t be afraid to give your content some “breathing room”. Website pages that have white space are less overwhelming, easier on the eyes, and simpler to digest, giving your website visitors a better overall experience. Padding and margin are your friends!
